I brought in my grandmother's Omega pocket watch after it had stopped entirely. Thanakorn sent me a written note at every stage — the initial findings, a question about a spare he had located, and then the final report when it was done. The watch runs now. I had not expected much, honestly, but I was surprised by how well the whole process was handled.

My Seiko mechanical was losing about three minutes a day. The tune-up fixed that — it is within about ten seconds per day now, which for a thirty-year-old movement is quite reasonable. The turnaround was a little longer than I expected, about twelve days, but the written report they sent at the end was more detailed than I had anticipated. Good workshop.

Very straightforward quartz battery visit. I walked in on a Tuesday morning with my daily Citizen and it was ready Thursday afternoon. The note they included was simple and clear — what they found, what they replaced, and a small observation about the gasket that they said to keep an eye on in a year or two. I inherited my grandfather's Swiss pocket watch and had no idea what to do with it. I brought it to Bua Horology with almost no information and they were patient in explaining what they found — a cracked mainspring and a worn balance staff. They sourced both parts and the watch now runs well. What I appreciated most was that they asked me specifically before polishing anything. I wanted the original finish left alone and they respected that entirely.

Finding a watchmaker in Bangkok who handles older mechanical watches properly is not easy. I brought a mid-century ETA movement in for a service and they were familiar with it, which was reassuring. The communication was good throughout. I lost one star only because the timing at collection ran slightly wider than quoted — about twelve days instead of ten — but the work itself was well done.

Case study — Antique Pocket Watch
A 1920s Swiss pocket watch with an unknown history
Challenge
The owner brought in a watch purchased at an estate sale with no service history available. It had stopped running and the case showed evidence of previous amateur opening — mismatched screws and a bent gasket channel. The movement condition was entirely unknown.
Approach
Diagnostic disassembly revealed a broken mainspring and several worn jewel settings. A written assessment was sent with two options — a conservative approach preserving original parts where usable, or a fuller replacement. The owner chose the conservative path. Parts were sourced over four weeks.
Result
The watch now runs within thirty seconds per day in normal position — acceptable for a movement of this age. The owner received a full written record of parts replaced and those retained. Total time: six weeks. The case was cleaned but not polished.

Case study — Mechanical Tune-Up
A daily-wear automatic gaining four minutes each day
Challenge
A twelve-year-old Japanese automatic had been running fast — roughly four minutes per day — and the owner had noticed some moisture inside the case after a rainy commute. The watch had not been serviced in at least six years.
Approach
Movement hand-cleaned, lubricated at all contact points, and regulated across five positions using a timing machine. Case and crown gaskets replaced and pressure tested after reassembly. Bracelet cleaned with owner's approval.
Result
Post-service rate: within eight seconds per day across positions. Water resistance restored to original rating. Completed in nine working days. Service report included timing figures before and after regulation.

Case study — Quartz Visit
A quartz watch unused for seven years after a dead battery
Challenge
A gift watch received at graduation had been in a drawer, unworn, for seven years following a dead battery. When examined, the old cell had leaked slightly onto the battery contacts, leaving corrosion that required cleaning before a new cell could be fitted.
Approach
Contacts cleaned carefully, corrosion removed, new cell fitted with correct specification. Gasket inspected — found serviceable, noted in the written summary for future reference. Functional check of date wheel and second hand confirmed normal operation.
Result
Watch returned running normally within three working days. Written note described the contact cleaning in addition to the battery replacement and flagged the gasket as something to revisit in two years. Cost remained within the standard ฿ 4,800 service price.
